Pomegranates And Gratitude

Sometimes something pulls you and touches your life without you realizing the significance at the time. Pomegranates pulled me towards them just like that. I first touched a ceramic pomegranate in the Greek island Symi, not letting myself purchase it because it was ‘too expensive’, and mostly because I wasn’t ready for them then. I was mesmerized by their beauty, the satisfying weight as I held them, and the indescribable stories they held inside. Two years later, when I got back to the island, I let myself purchase a couple and a small thought formed in my head ‘what if I make them myself?’. 6 months later when I held my very first pomegranate after taking a ceramics class, I cried with joyful tears.

As I was making this pomegranate you see in the picture and others, I dove deeply into the depths of what they represented and what they woke up in me. They represent potential, creativity, abundance, and beauty. They are like the womb, small but mighty. They are like the mind, a thousand ideas waiting to burst out of you. They are like the night sky, filled with mystery.

I couldn’t have imagined then what other doors pomegranates would open for me. They re-entered my life with Tarot imagery, in the dress of the Empress, symbolizing life renewing herself. They opened up the door to the myth of Persephone, holding the wisdom of the darkness, the unknown, and the forgotten, in one tiny seed.

The last couple of months I have been writing another daily practice journal: 40 Days Of GratitudeThis time following one pomegranate seed at a time, from fruit to seed to nectar-filled flower. Gratitude is all about appreciating all seasons and layers of what it means to be a human and extracting and holding onto what matters. I am so happy to share it with you.

Dishes And Enlightenment

Here’s a picture of my kitchen where lately I have been wondering if Dalai Lama ever filled and emptied a dishwasher and if he could have remained enlightened during the pandemic if he did 🧐. As we move through these times, I am finding more and more that self-healing is no longer an optional luxury. How you tend to yourself determines the quality of your life – and how you do your dishes.

Self-healing I am talking about is not self-curing. It is bringing your body, emotions, and energy back into balance again and again and again. You can work with a Healer like me to . But a daily self-healing practice is a must not only for your well-being but for maintaining a healthy relationship with everyone and everything around you -including the dishes.

Here are a few things that I currently love and are helping me with tending to my needs:

The Inner Journey Of Healing

I have been thinking a lot about inner journeys. Ultimately, self-healing is an inner journey, one that you get to take over and over again. You don’t wake up one day and you are done healing. In fact for me it often goes like this:

  • I wake up. Despite nine hours of sleep, I haven’t rested. I feel some sort of discomfort, unease, or anxiety already brewing and stirring in me.
  • I get myself downstairs to drink water or have a bite while I feed my cat and daughter at the same time.
  • Before I work, I stop. I pay attention. I ask myself what I need. Some days I sit in meditation. Other days I do EFT Tapping. Mostly, I just listen to a Monthly Energy Tune-Up from the , where I know I will be held in unconditional love. I either sit in seated meditation or curl up in a fetal position in my bed (depending on the kind of day) while I listen. If I don’t have 30 minutes, I listen to the 5 Minutes of Meeting Your Energetic Needs Mini Energy Tune Up. I get calm, my tension dissolves in small waves. I can breathe again. I listen for inner guidance. I ask for the next small step. I hear the soul of life cheering me on. I am ready to take on the day.
  • I can finally get to work, write, share, feel, and heal others, and support my family’s and my physical, emotional, and energetic needs. Then I feel depleted again.
  • Then I pause and ask myself what I need again…

So the cycle continues. There is no end. The healing is constant. I breathe, I notice, I love and I adjust my energy and outlook, and I keep breathing.

I know that every little bit of self-healing I can do will be helpful. I know that it matters that I take the time to calm down the roaring waves of my nervous system. I know that even if it doesn’t feel like I am making a huge jump, having a great aha moment, or I may or may not feel good again the next morning, my healing adds up drop by drop and I am progressing in a pattern.

This is all that I ask of myself these days: pay attention, make time for self-healing, and keep making progress small bit by small bit.

This is all that you need to do to start to heal: pause, breathe, notice, and love. There is no destination, only the journey of learning to hold yourself in more and more tenderness every time you need to be held.

Empath Tip To Survive Social Overload

If you are an empath struggling to get back to a social life, this is for you. I am on the same boat with you. When I spend time with a friend who sighs a lot, I start to sigh a lot. When I spend time with a friend who stutters, I start to stutter. Over the years I found that protecting myself is less powerful than letting it happen and flow through and out of me. My body works by empathizing with others and embodying what they may be sensing and feeling, which is my super power. Instead of closing myself off to an interaction, I imagine myself to be porous (which we all are on a subatomic level) and let everything flow through and out of me.

If you need extra help, I highly recommend you to download the Allow Life To Flow EFT Tapping Meditation I am sharing freely here. Regardless of whether you are an empath or not, it will help you safely process and move through any new sensations, emotions, thoughts, and vibrations you are experiencing.

Mother’s Day And Healing Your Mother Wounds

Here’s an article I wrote about healing your mother wounds for the Seacoast Moms Blog. I know that most of us have complex relationships with our moms and mother’s day can be a triggering time. In the article I am listing some strategies for you to begin healing your mother wounds.

Remembering The Possibility Of Healing

I was so grateful to find this beautiful postcard (art by @banksy) while cleaning and organizing my notes from the last four years. A client wrote on the other side of it:

“Damla, this postcard has been on my bedside table for many months, my invitation to myself. It feels so much to be about your healing practice to help us step out of old patterns into the world of light and new possibilities. Thank you for all that you do and share.”

In the postcard, the little girl isn’t yet aware that she is the one holding onto the umbrella of rain and suffering. In an effort to protect herself, she is depriving herself of the healing and light that is available to her always. She has created a way of being and seeing the world through fear that masks her own tears and prevents her from exploring what she is really feeling. I feel like the majority of the time, my work as a healer is simply reminding people that it is possible for them to put down the umbrella of self-judgement, self-doubt and fear, and step into a way of existing that is light, open, and expanded, and often beyond their imagination.

As soon as I held the postcard in my hands, I was also reminded of the Tarot card Ten of Swords. This card shows how even in the midst of a beautiful weather and horizon, your old patterns can stab you in the back and keep you stuck. The wounded (stabbed) small self is you but you need to remember that the beautiful mountains, fields, the body of water and the limitless sky is also you. If you let it happen, you can be held, supported, taken care of, and healed by this vast and expanded part of you.

I know that this is possible through daily healing practices and getting help from a healer for healing deeper wounds. Please make your well-being and healing your energetic wounds a priority, and open up to existing in a new, expanded, light-hearted way.

Find out what your energetic wounds might be (the rain and the swords) and how you can begin to heal them.

With love and light,

Damla

Resistance To Healing

In this video, I am explaining how resistance to healing or fear of vulnerability and change may show up for you as we work together. I am also sharing strategies on how to overcome it.

Resistance to healing is real. The good news is it is a part of your healing process. In fact, the bigger the resistance, the greater your potential find relief, expansion and growth through our work together. There are ways to support your nervous system as you go through a deeper healing journey. It is your responsibility to calm down your nervous system and take care of your container (your body) while we work together.

The meditation I am sharing below is a great resource to help you become present to all the physical and emotional waves that rise up during a healing journey. Practicing it daily will help you with letting go of your resistance and releasing any judgement, labeling or fear related to your healing.
